June 30, 2025 – The Business of Diving Institute and InDEPTH Magazine just released results from the 2nd edition of a worldwide dive industry survey on scuba instructors’ remuneration.
We conducted worldwide surveys on dive instructor remuneration in 2021 (reporting on years 2019 & 2020) and 2025 (reporting on year 2024). Since 2020 marked the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we compared 2024 to 2019 in this newly published dive industry market report on the financial lives of dive instructors.
Trends over the past 5 years were identified by comparing the 2019 results with those of 2024.
Results comparing the income of scuba diving instructors between recreational dive instructors and tech diving instructors, as well as between instructor trainers and instructors, are presented. Survey results are provided by gender, dive training agency, geographical region, years of experience, and age. We also compared independent dive instructors to those working for a dive center.
Results from this dive industry market research are available to all dive industry professionals at no cost.
This dive industry market study was a joint effort between Darcy Kieran (Business of Diving Institute) and Michael Menduno (InDEPTH Magazine). Numerous dive training agencies and scuba diving publications have jumped on board to help with this survey.
We thank the following scuba diving industry leaders for their direct support of this initiative: Shearwater, DAN Europe, and GUE.
